We like to cook with the all of the taste sensations!

Have you heard of Umami? The fifth taste sensation.

One of the five basic tastes (together with sweetness, sourness, bitterness, and saltiness). A "pleasant savory taste", this particular writing was chosen by Japanese chemist Kikunae Ikeda.


Santa Maria Beans:
2 lbs poquito beans, 2 teaspoons chili powder, 2 minced garlic cloves
1 medium yellow onion diced, ½ pound diced bacon
½ pound ground beef, ½ tsp black pepper
3 tsp sea salt [salt], ½ tsp dried oregano
1 ½ cups tomato juice
Cover beans in water and boil then add salt and pepper. Turn heat to simmer for two hours or until tender. [Can soak them over night and the beans won’t need two hours to get tender]
Sautee bacon, onion, garlic, ground beef, tomato juice and seasonings.
Add mixture to beans and simmer another hour.
This batch can serve about 10 or so. Maybe more!
